Regarded as one of the world's most spectacular archaeological finds, the discovery of the Gold of Troy confirmed the existence of the flourishing pre-classical civilization and its legendary treasure. Excavated between 1870-1873 by German businessman-turned-archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, the hoards of treasure included thousands of gold and semi-precious stone objects dating to 2500 BC.
